Talk Story
As I look back on those days with my Grandfather, I realize that the essence of caregiving is rooted deeply in Kupuna care and the blessings of Ohana. It wasn’t just about attending to his needs or managing his illness; it was about honoring the wisdom and love he embodied, and understanding the sacred responsibility of caring for those who came before us.

In our family, caring for the Kupuna is more than a duty—it’s an expression of love, respect, and gratitude. It’s about recognizing the immeasurable value that our elders bring to our lives and ensuring that they are surrounded by the love and support of their Ohana.

The time spent with my Grandfather, whether we were gardening, cooking, or simply enjoying a fishing trip in that old Chevy station wagon, was filled with moments that reinforced this belief. These were moments of connection, where the past and present intertwined, and the future was gently shaped by the wisdom passed down.

Through caregiving, I learned that the true blessing of Ohana lies in these connections—in the way we care for one another, uplift each other, and carry forward the traditions and values that define us. My Grandfather’s presence in my life was a blessing that continues to guide me, reminding me of the importance of Kupuna care and the deep, enduring bonds of family.
About Me

Shirley Ramey - LPN

This is a partnership of Ohana Wellbeing with a focus on the caregiver. Traditionally speaking its been a family member, loved one or a primary partner that provides care. The goal of I Care
Ohana Wellbeing is to support the caregiver and how to manage compassion fatigue in caregiving.
Statistically care-partners have minimized their own wellbeing due to focus of providing care. The caregiver eventually is compromised emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually, which then creates a situation where the care-partner is not recognizing the importance of self-care. The I Care Ohana Wellbeing program is vital for providing an integrative approach to create care for all. The goal is to provide tools/practices for the care-partners wellbeing and to minimize care-giver “burn-out” and create a care plan for themselves. Creating a individualized care plan for the care-partner that is attainable and supportive of the
care partners overall wellness/wellbeing.
